Body Image
In Judaism, body and soul hold the same level of importance in this world, the goals of which are: to perform the commandments, to be co-creators of this world, and to achieve holiness. The body is not a problem or obstacle for the soul, as in Christianity. Nor is it considered the sole center of human existence, as in secularism. Therefore, Judaism embraces the concept of Thiyas a Mesim or physical resurrection.
Jewish Law forbids self abuse, and auto denigration. It considers this an affront to God, who made our bodies the way they are. Judaism’s goal is that every person is to feel good about his or her body, to have a positive image and, to enjoy sex and life while concentrating on becoming holy through performing the Mitzvoth and studying the Torah.
